Hello friends!  I'm here to give some tips for storage of Dip Powders and keeping them in good shape!  

I know many of you have hundreds, if not more, dip powders.  Well, did you know they actually do contain ingredients with an expiration date?  Let’s go through some things that can prevent your dip powders from going bad.

  1. STORAGE: Always keep your dip powders in a cool climate controlled area out of direct sunlight and way from moisture!  Keeping your dips in a basement that is filled with moisture or in a bathroom is a complete no-no!  Moisture will kill your dips!  
  2. SHELF LIFE: Some of the ingredients in dip powders can have a shelf life.  Primarily the dip powder and pigments can become less effective over time.  Does this mean that you should "purge" your collection every few years?  Of course not!  Try using the powder.  If it still sets like it is supposed to and holds up with wear, you can continue using it!  I still use dip powders I made in 2018.  Don't just toss it because it "might" be too old.  
  3. STIR YOUR POWDERS: Before using your dip powders (especially after having them sit on your shelf for a while), stir them.  The different materials will settle and without stirring them before use, you could end up with a splotchy application.  Also, dips containing special properties such as Glow pigment or Thermal/UV pigment may not change correctly if you did not stir before using.  And let's face it, after taking the time to do your nails, who wants to start all over because they forgot to stir first? 
  4. SHARING YOUR DIP POWDERS: If you love to share your dips or even do others' nails, it's recommended that you don't "dip" into the powder, but pour the powder over yours and your friends' nails.  This is a good idea in case either of you develops a nail condition such as a fungus.  It is more hygienic to pour the powder over the nails instead of dipping into the entire jar. 

Follow these simple guidelines and your dip powder collection will be usable for many moons to come!
