Have you ever loaded your shopping cart with your favorite DD goodies and then had to switch to a different device to finish ordering, except when you switch to another device your cart contents are gone? Well, this issue has come up recently.
Unfortunately, the Shopify platform stores natively store cart data in browser cookies, not user accounts, leading to carts not syncing across devices and causing potential "disappearing" cart issues. This results in independent carts for mobile and desktop, or empty carts when switching devices.
Yes, there "could" possibly be a fix for this. However a third party App would need to be subscribed to and installed on the website. Adding Apps is always risky. Many times they conflict with other Apps needed to run the website. Often times, I don't realize there is an issue until we launch a new release when we find things aren't working, which ultimately makes me upset and customers irate.
Because I don't want to compromise the integrity of the website, I will not be adding any additional Apps to attempt to fix this issue. If you begin building a cart on one device, understand that you will not be able to see that cart on another device. It has nothing to do with logging in, but has everything to do with your browser cookies. I apologize in advance for any stress this may cause you, but I have to do what's best for all in the long run and providing a website that works well is my priority.
Additionally, I often have customers tell me that things in their cart have sold out before they can purchase them. Yes, items added to your cart are not safe from someone else purchasing it. If you add it to your cart, the only way to make it yours is to finalize the purchase.
